Movies about wedding, which will make your day

It happened! You were given a shiny ring from your fiancée who asked the question, most of us wants to hear. You already dream about your princess dress, fabulous hair, and dancing with your future husband surrounded by beloved ones in the romantic scenery… However, when it comes to organization, the stress becomes your guest too. Will this dress be suitable for me? Will we manage to book everything on time? Is our budget enough? Won’t my beautician make me a clown? What, if I forget my marriage vow? Will all my guests have fun? These are common questions coming to the fiancée’s head.

As someone who has been there before, I can recommend you to watch some comedies this evening. Below you can see the list of five wedding movies that will definitely relieve stress. Just take a cup of tea, hot chocolate, or wine and enjoy!

… 5th place: “Mamma Mia!”

Origin: UK/USA

Released in: 2008

Director: Phyllida Lloyd

Original title: “Mamma Mia!”

Donna is a single mother running a little hotel on a Greek island. Her daughter, Sophie is getting married soon. The girl’s biggest dream is being walked down the aisle by her father she never met. Sophie secretly reads the diary of her mother. Considering Donna’s memories from tender years, her daughter finds three potential fathers. She invites all of them for her wedding hoping, the real one would come. Both Donna and Sophie will be shocked after the arrival of the whole trio!

Although it’s not the most ambitious movie, I highly recommend to watch this comedy not only to ABBA fans, but to everyone enjoying the view of beautiful Greece.

… 4th place: “A Perfect Plan”

Origin: France

Released in: 2012

Director: Pascal Chaumeil

Original title: “Un plan parfait”

Isabelle is going to marry her long-term partner Pierre. However, the women of her family have been cursed for over 100 years – every first marriage of them is unsuccessful. Desperate Isabelle can’t deal with it and decides to cheat destiny. She plans to go to Denmark to get married to a random man and divorce him the next day, so she can plan her future with Pierre in peace. However, nothing goes as it’s planned. Firstly, Isabelle chooses gruff Jean-Yves who is going to Kenia for writing a tourist guide. So, instead of Copenhagen, Nairobi becomes her final destination. Secondly… after the finalized plan, Isabelle still can’t live with Pierre happy at last. Why? Just watch!

… 3rd place: “Monster-in-law”

Origin: USA

Released in: 2005

Director: Robert Luketic

Original title: “Monster-in-law”

Charlotte meets Kevin who turns out to be the One. They decide to get married shortly. However, there’s one thing destroying their idyll. Yes, you guessed well! It’s Kevin’s mother Viola – former presenter and divorced woman who is extremely afraid of losing her only son. After Kevin introduces his fiancee to Viola, she starts doing all her best to make Charlotte’s life hell. However… the future daughter-in-law doesn’t give up and we’ll be the witness of a huge fight.

Why should you watch this movie? You will definitely like Jane Fonda’s role. And I started appreciating my normal mother-in-law more.

… 2nd place: “The Proposal”

Origin: USA

Released in: 2009

Director: Anne Fletcher

Original title: “The Proposal”

Margaret Tate, the powerful businesswoman, is the Canadian trying to receive the US citizenship. However, she neglected the visa procedures, that’s why she’s about being deported. Desperate Margaret decides to get married fast and she chooses Andrew – her assistant who isn’t her biggest fan. Finally the future groom agrees and they go to Alaska together to meet Andrew’s family and get married. Paradoxically Margaret is loved by the family members, but the immigration agent watches her every step.

I really liked this movie, because you can see there very well that people can show their different, often warmer, side in private circumstances.

... and 1st place: “Serial (Bad) Weddings”

Origin: France

Released in: 2014

Director: Philippe de Chauveron

Original title: “Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?”

Claude and Marie Verneuil is a bourgeois, conservative Catholic couple having four adult daughters. They always dreamt about the proper husbands for them: educated, well-situated and especially Christian. However, not everything goes as you wish. The first daughter married the Chinese man. The second one’s husband is Muslim. The third one married a Jew. That’s why the parents were very thrilled to meet a youngest daughter’s fiancee who is Catholic. However, there’s one detail Claude and Marie hadn’t known before and they won’t be so glad of it. :)

Why I highly recommend watching it? Because it concerns important contemporary social issues in a very humorous way. For example cultural differences, bigotry, generation gap, or prejudice against the foreign future child-in-law. Each “side of the conflict” will be equally parodied. In the continuation “Serial Bad Weddings 2” the LGBT plot will appear.

These movies are just for entertainment.

Don’t take an example from them while planning your wedding :)
