Romeo and Juliet
There’s simply no way that we don’t mention Shakespeare’s masterpiece Romeo and Juliet, a story so well-known that everyone’s tired of it already. Yet, if we try the rate the book on its own it is quite an engaging story with a tragic ending that not many people expected.
The Twilight Saga
Okay, okay, I know what you’re going to say – Twilight is a terrible movie that everyone hates, it has 5.2/10 on IMDB and so on… However, we cannot undermine that despite it being horrid, you still know about it and at the time it was realised it was incredibly popular. You could almost call it a cultural phenomenon.
Antony and Cleopatra
Another one of the most famous love stories is Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare. It seems that William really loved the motive of “great love demanding great sacrifice” since in this one, a married general Antony impales himself on a sword after a fake information that Cleopatra is dead andafter Cleopatra receives the REAL info that Antony is dead, she takes her own life.
Titanic (1998)
I do not think that Titanic needs any sort of introduction, it has the best of both worlds, being well-known and an amazing movie as a whole. It set the bar extremely high for romantic epics.
Homer’s Iliad
This list really wouldn’t be complete without Homer’s Iliad and… it’s one of the few love stories where the lovers don’t kill themselves for a change. After Helen of Troy has been kidnapped by Paris, it leads to The Trojan War, where Greek armies take down Paris, destroy The Kingdom of Troy and retrieve Helen to her rightful husband Menelaus.
